Police Reveal Former ‘Star Trek’ Actor Jon Paul Steuer’s Cause of Death

The death of former “Star Trek: The Next Generation” actor Jon Paul Steuer has been ruled a suicide, police told The Blast. Steuer died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Steuer died on New Year’s Day, The Blast reported.

Steuer was best known for playing Alexander Rozhenko as a child on “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Steuer also went on to act in “Little Giants” and “Grace Under Fire,” according to The Blast.

His acting credits don’t extend pass the 1990s. According to his IMDB profile, he joined rock bands after his acting career, and was part owner of a vegan restaurant in Portland.

His most recent band, P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S., mentioned Steuer’s death in a January Facebook post days after his death. The post addressed Steuer by his stage name, Johnny Jewels. The band has no more recent posts to the page.

“He was only with us for a little more than a year, but we managed to cram a lifetime of great experiences into his tenure as our singer: dozens shows at home in Portland and across several states, an amazing European tour, and our best full-length release yet,” the band wrote.

Steuer began acting at 3 years old and ended his career at 12, after a scandal took hold of “Grace Under Fire.” He said he tried for more acting jobs but did not enjoy always having to answer questions about his previous gig, according to Page Six.

“I was kind of blown away by how unprofessional people inside the industry were. It really soured me. I didn’t want that kind of attention,” said Steuer, via Page Six.

The official Twitter account of “Star Trek Online” acknowledged the former actor’s passing in January:

“Rest in Peace, Jon Paul Steuer, the first actor to play Alexander in TNG. You will be deeply missed.”
