Three People Left Dead in 6-Vehicle Crash in Michigan

By Zack Stieber

Police officers and firefighters in Michigan rushed to a six-vehicle crash on Tuesday night, May 8, that ultimately left three people dead.

Police officers said the crash happened around 5:45 p.m. at Belleville and Ecorse roads in Van Buren Township.

Officers later determined that the cause of the chain reaction crash was speed.

“When our police and fire units arrived, this is basically what we saw, except for that car [that] was fully involved,” Van Buren Township Public Safety Director Greg Laurain told Click on Detroit.

The vehicle was burned and smashed so badly that the police couldn’t determine the model. A witness said a major factor in the crash was speed.

“We do know one thing,” Laurain said. “There are six cars total involved in this accident and, unfortunately, we now have three fatalities.”

The victims were in two cars while some people in the other four vehicles suffered minor injuries. One 10-year-old had to be transported to the hospital for treatment.

Eyewitness video posted below shows a fire break out after the crash, which was triggered by a rear-end collision, reported Fox 2.

The footage shows a vehicle laying on its side on fire as well as three vehicles severely damaged by the chain reaction crash.

The broadcaster reported that one of the three victims is the father of the young child who was rushed to the hospital.

That father was identified as Robert Dulin III by WXYZ, which reported that Dulin put his body in front of his 10-year-old son when it became clear that they were going to crash.

“He died a hero by saving his son’s life! That alone speaks volumes about the man he was! I’m praying for his wife, daughter, and the rest of his family!” noted a friend on Facebook.
